Doctors give unbiased, trusted information on whether Hydroxychloroquine can cause or treat Diarrhea Dr. Cattano on plaquenil and diarrhea Temporary GI disturbances are quite common with antibiotics, so a little patience with this understanding comes handy to get the intended benefit from the treatment. I would recommend extra clear liquids like electrolyte solutions, yogurt and probiotic to. My doctor recently added Plaquenil to my medication list. He told me that my blood is clotting and Plaquenil is a blood thinner. He knew I had to do stressful depositions this past week, so to start the Plaquenil after because it's been known to cause stomach pains and diarrhea. Plaquenil is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria.

I said, "Well, I am usually very constipated and could stand to lose 10 pounds so this could be a good thing." haha. I am NOT constipated any more but have not lost any weight either. I started taking Plaquenil 4 weeks ago for non specific autoimmune disease as indicated by ANA. Symptoms were low grade temperature off and on for a year, joint pain and fatigue. I have already felt some relief. Some nauseau at first but less problem with fever and joint pain. But, now I have started having stomach cramps and diarrhea. I understand these may go away.
