    Valacyclovir 1 mg

Valaciclovir, also spelled valacyclovir, is an antiviral drug used in the management of herpes simplex, herpes zoster (shingles), and herpes B. It is a prodrug, which is converted to aciclovir in a persons body. Common adverse drug reactions (≥1% of patients) associated with valaciclovir therapy are the same as for aciclovir, its active metabolite, and include: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and headache. Infrequent adverse effects (0.1–1% of patients) include: agitation, vertigo, confusion, dizziness, edema, arthralgia, sore throat, constipation, abdominal pain, rash, weakness and/or renal impairment. Rare adverse effects ( Valaciclovir belongs to a family of molecules first described and patented by Paolo Cornaglia Ferraris in 1982 (patents EP0077460 A2, CA1258149A1, DE3273785D1, EP0077460A3, EP0077460B1, US4567182). Valaciclovir is a prodrug, an esterified version of aciclovir that has greater oral bioavailability (about 55%) than aciclovir (10–20%). It is converted by esterases to the active drug aciclovir, as well as the amino acid valine, via hepatic first-pass metabolism. It slows the growth and spread of the herpes virus to help the body fight the infection. Valacyclovir is used to treat infections caused by herpes viruses, including genital herpes, cold sores, and shingles (herpes zoster) in adults. Valacyclovir is used to treat cold sores in children who are at least 12 years old, or chickenpox in children who are at least 2 years old. Valacyclovir will not cure herpes and will not prevent you from spreading the virus to other people. However, this medicine can lessen the symptoms of an infection. Before taking valacyclovir, tell your doctor if you have HIV/AIDS, a weak immune system, kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis), or if you have had a kidney or bone marrow transplant. Valacyclovir can be harmful to the kidneys, and these effects are increased when it is used together with other medicines that can harm the kidneys.

Since cold sores are caused due to a virus, an anti-viral agent like Valacyclovir is effective in its treatment. Famciclovir and Valacyclovir are different medicines. Famciclovir is an inactive form of 'penciclovir' whereas Valacyclovir is an inactive form of 'Acyclovir'. Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus and occur as groups of painful, fluid-filled blisters. It can be taken when the first symptoms (such as burning or itching) appear. Expiry date is a date, generally in MM/YYYY mentioned on the back of the blister. You should not use the medicine after the due date. Expired medicines are less effective or risky due to a change in chemical composition or a decrease in strength. Valacyclovir is the inactive form of Acyclovir and is converted into Acyclovir in the body. It comes in the form of a tablet you take by mouth. Valacyclovir is available as a brand-name drug called Valtrex. Generic drugs usually cost less than the brand-name version. In some cases, they may not be available in every strength or form as the brand-name drug. This drug may be used as part of a combination therapy. This means you may need to take it with other medications. Valacyclovir is used to treat viral infections caused by a group of viruses called herpes simplex viruses. These infections include oral and genital herpes, shingles, and chickenpox.

In addition to the general indications for all members of the tetracycline antibiotics group, doxycycline is frequently used to treat Lyme disease, chronic prostatitis, sinusitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, Moraxella catarrhalis, Brucella melitensis, Chlamydia pneumoniae, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae are generally susceptible to doxycycline, while some Haemophilus spp., Mycoplasma hominis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa have developed resistance to varying degrees. Some Gram-positive bacteria have developed resistance to doxycycline. Up to 44% of Streptococcus pyogenes and up to 74% of S. faecalis specimens have developed resistance to the tetracycline group of antibiotics. When bacteriologic testing indicates appropriate susceptibility to the drug, doxycycline may be used to treat these infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria: The World Health Organization Guidelines states that the combination of doxycycline with either artesunate or quinine may be used for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria due to Plasmodium falciparum or following intravenous treatment of severe malaria. Doxycycline kills the symbiotic Wolbachia bacteria in the reproductive tracts of parasitic filarial nematodes, making the nematodes sterile, and thus reducing transmission of diseases such as onchocerciasis and elephantiasis. Doxycycline has been used successfully to treat sexually transmitted, respiratory, and ophthalmic infections.
