    How long is plaquenil good

I know its a supposed small risk, but thanks to Google I've uncovered some horror stories about vision issues after just 8mo-1yr and people swearing it is actually not uncommon. I've had the worst flare of my life over late summer, I've had 3 early miscarriages in 1.5 years, I'm almost always in some type of achy state or dead tired. Potential side effects and very real risks make the medication seem ridiculously dangerous. I'm not as familiar with MCTD but what I do know is that is can be just as dangerous as SLE. Is the vision loss something that will stop if the medication is stopped?

It is recommended to be taken with food. Symptoms can start to improve in one to two months, but it may take up to six months before the full benefits of this medication are experienced. Plaquenil has been a life-saving drug for me, quite literally. I was a mess in 2004-2005 and then a dr put me on Plaquenil, and in 3 weeks most of my symptoms had disappeared. Plaquenil is a slow-acting drug, meaning that it can take up to 6 months to experience the full benefits of this medication, but it is possible for symptoms to improve in as few as 1 or 2 months. Plaquenil and other antimalarials are the key to controlling lupus long-term, and some lupus patients may be on Plaquenil for the rest of their lives.

Your external symptoms are a sign that something very wrong is going on inside you. Why in the world would anyone choose to poison themselves? You have a choice to make between letting your disease run rampant and continue to damage your body until it can no longer fight back or using one of the few weapons you have at your disposal to slow it down. Unfortunately, you have to roll the dice and decide which risk you'd rather take.

  4. The Plaquenil is supposed to kick in in 3 to 6 months. I think it was 8 months for me. One day I was congratulating myself for getting so many things done and I realised that the days had been getting better without my noticing.

Of all the drugs I've had to take for lupus, plaquenil is probably the most mellow. It is my understanding that if it affects your eyes, it's a slow onset type thing, so if you're having your eyes checked regularly every 6mos, you will be fine. My doctor wants me to start taking Plaquenil tomorrow. I have read some of your comments about nausea, heartburn, indigestion, and hair loss. I am wondering how long it will take to get any of these side effects if at all after I start Plaquenil? One day, one week, one month, one year? Thank. According to Drugs.com, Plaquenil given for a long term can cause retinal disorders after a few months or years of daily use--especially if the dose exceeds 400mg per day. The risk of retinal damage increases at doses of 600mg to 700mg.
